Information Manifesto Flyer

Information Management Manifesto in Brief

What is the manifesto about?

The Information Management (IM) Manifesto is a community vehicle for formalising a non-binding and persuasive code of conduct for the IM profession.

What is IM?

For this purpose of this initiative, IM is the collection and management of information from one or more sources and the distribution of that information to one or more audiences.

For the purpose of the current stage of the IM Manifesto, the initiative is primarily focused on Data Warehousing, Decision Support and Business Intelligence (Reporting, Data Visualization, Data Analytics, etc.)  It is however expected that the scope will grow in order to cover other areas of IM.

Why have an IM Manifesto group?

The world of IM is in a poor state; levels of professionalism are at an all-time low; and as we move forward, the worse the reputation of the profession becomes. IM desperately needs an ethical and professional transformation, one that all professionals can contribute to and support. So, in the absence of any group of this kind, I decided to start the IM Manifesto initiative.

What is the IM Manifesto vision?

The aim is that within a year we will have a working code of conduct for the IM profession, and that the IM Manifesto will be providing a coherent basis for tangible advantages, such as:
  1. The IM Manifesto will be used by customers of IM professional services and technologies as a means to set criteria for the selection, contractual arrangements, quality assurance and management of relationships with IM suppliers.
  2. IM Professionals who have signed up for the IM Manifesto can benefit from their endorsement of the IM Manifesto.
  3. IM service and technology providers can clearly differentiate themselves in the open marketplace.

Dependencies

The success of the IM Manifesto will depend on individual commitment, collective endorsements and widespread adoption.
